What a Lesson Plan is
First I wanted to explain what a lesson plan is. A lesson plan is a detailed description of a course instruction for an individual topic that is presented to the classroom. This helps teachers be prepared for a lesson by knowing what point they want to come across during the lesson, what materials will be needed, and a step by step layout of what to do during the lesson. Lesson plans help teachers come to a full understanding of what is needed to be taught during the lesson and helps the teacher review what is being taught to try and make it fun for the students. On each lesson plan the teacher is most likely to write the goals of the overall lesson such as wanting the students to learn how to count with objects instead of their own fingers. Overall, lesson plans are used to prepare the teachers as well as organize the lesson to make it easier for the teachers to teach and students to learn was is being taught.
What Teachers Should Think about Before Making a Lesson Plan
Here are something’s teachers should think about while creating a lesson plan. They need to think about how they are going to instruct the class during this lesson, such as putting everyone into small groups or if they want to teach the whole class. This is an important thing for the teacher to think about while creating a lesson because he/she will know if the students they are teaching learn better listening to the lesson or being paired off into small groups and learning from their classmates. The next thing a teacher should think about is what the lesson plan will focus on. In the beginning of the lesson plan it might be a good idea for there to be a question stated on the top of the lesson so when the teacher asks the students he/she will know if the overall point of the lesson was taught to the students individually. The most important thing a teacher should think about while writing a lesson plan is to be able to know if the topic is compatible to the age level of the students that are being taught as well as the teacher should be knowledgeable to the expectations for the student’s achievement.
An Example of How to Make a Lesson Plan
Here is a step by step example of how a lesson plan could be written. Let’s start with the title of the lesson such as ‘counting with pennies.’ Then you need to put the subject the lesson falls under such as ‘math.’ The amount of time the lesson will be going on for is important because you want to plan your day so you can get everything done that you want to. Materials is important, for every lesson there is to be taught there is always something that is needed even something so simple like the hand out of the assignment, if the materials aren’t written you could find yourself unprepared for the lesson. You want to list the objectives such as behavioral and knowledge, this is to help those teachers with students that are slower learners you always need to write down notes to those who may need extra help during the lesson, everyone is on different learning levels but the overall objective is for everyone to learn from the lesson. And in the end of the lesson plan you would want to leave space for the teacher to write their overall opinion, if the students learned from the lesson, if it was successful, and if it’s something they want to teach again in their next years of teaching.
